Greetings close friends and family, and welcome to the website memorializing the very rich lives of our parents, Robert and Susan.  While it is impossible not to approach this task with some sadness and grief, we hope to look beyond what’s been lost and toward all of the amazing experiences we had during their time with us.  There is no shortage of love and laughs to draw upon, and our vision for this website is to bring the good times clearly into focus. They were incredible parents, family members, and friends to those of us who knew them well, and we are certain you share our sentiment: we miss them dearly, but also know how lucky we were to have had them at all.

As you will have already learned from our introductory email, our plan to memorialize our parents has two core elements.  First we have commissioned a local New Hampshire artisan to create an inscribed granite bench to be placed at the entrance to Merck Forest Farmland and Preserve in Rupert, VT.  Merck Forest is a particularly meaningful place for us, the site of many fun family adventures from our youth and synonymous with that stage of our lives together as a family.  We received approval for placement of the bench and will proceed to plan a simple, casual memorial at Merck in summer of 2016.  Anyone is welcome, but there should be no pressure to attend.  We will keep you posted on details through email and on the Memorial page of this website.

We plan to use this event as an opportunity to make a donation to Merck Forest in our parents’ names, on the belief that they would have enjoyed knowing they contributed to keeping the place alive and fixed in time as part of their legacy.  Instructions for how to donate can be found in the Memorial page of this website, if you feel so inclined.  Many thanks to Dave and Sue for spearheading and championing this effort.  We appreciate it beyond words.

In addition, through this website we hope to compile a set of images and stories from our parents’ lives that we can share with each other, and which ultimately will serve as a book of memories we can hand down to our children.  We have made a couple of initial contributions focused around our memories of Merck Forest, but plan to add continuously over the next several months (and years to come!), covering all sorts of memories and topics.  We would love it if you could contribute to the cause as well. The Contribute page contains instructions on how to send us your images and stories. You can also  “Leave a Reply” at the bottom of each posted story if you want to react or add to any of the posted stories.
